Problems

Before diving into the design process, we conducted a survey to learn the market needs and acceptable price range.

A series of interviews were then conducted on 6 participants (4 in the US, 3 in Japan) to further identify users' pain points, frustrations needs, and wishes.

A persona was built based on the data collected to help us to sketch out the first version of the remote controller app interface.

The usability testing was conducted on the initial version to determine where improvements could be made and identify new ideas to satisfy user expectations, needs, and desires.

Solution

To avoid scrolling when using, the Number Panel was hidden under the NUM key.

Every user's preference for TV usage is different. We made every button fully customizable.

Round navigation button outlines option is offered to enhance accessibility. To simulate the sense of touch, haptic feedback feature is also embedded.

Users’ feedback shows that Screen Mirroring is a highly-wanted function, we plan to add screen mirroring feature to enable users to smartify their Sony TV and enjoy photos, videos, apps and even games from their phone/tablet on the big screen.
